Bishops Win Fourth Straight All-Ohio Crown

1st of 19 at All-Ohio Division III championship

Sophomore Mike Heeschen (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) won events to lead Ohio Wesleyan to the team title at the All-Ohio Division III championship meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 116½ points to 97 for Otterbein.  Case Reserve finished third with 90 points, followed by Heidelberg (74), John Carroll (71), Capital (54½), Denison (43), Baldwin Wallace (39), and Wilmington (38).  Ohio Northern rounded out the top 10 teams with 36 points, followed by Muskingum (35), Bluffton (28), Marietta and Wittenberg (26), Oberlin (20), Defiance (9), Wooster (6), and Kenyon and Mount St. Joseph (0).

The All-Ohio championship was the fourth in a row for the Battling Bishops.

Heeschen won the javelin with a throw of 175-10, his second consecutive All-Ohio title in the event.

Newman won the decathlon at last week's multi-event portion of the meet, scoring a total of 6226 points to win his third All-Ohio decathlon title.  On Saturday, he finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, tied for fifth in the high jump, and tied for sixth in the pole vault.

All-Ohio honors also went to freshman Cade Richeson (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), who was second in the shot put and third in the discus; junior Darcy Isaiah (Akron/Firestone), who placed second in the 800-meter run; and sophomore Ryan Lesmez (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), who finished third in the 1500-meter run.

The Bishop 400-meter relay team of junior Delontaye Morrow (Medina), junior Tommy Davis (Clyde), sophomore Nate Minic (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch), and senior Griffin Peyton (Cincinnati/Anderson) also won All-Ohio recognition with its second-place finish.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Peyton, who was fourth in the javelin and sixth in the 100-meter dash; sophomore Jayson Blankenship (Medina), who finished fourth in the decathlon and tied for sixth in the pole vault; freshman Marquis Sena (Bronx, N.Y./Institute for Math & Science), who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash; Davis, who finished fourth in the 200-meter dash; freshman Darien Ramirez-Wilson (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), who was fourth in the triple jump; Morrow, who finished fifth in the 100-meter dash; junior Daniel Frame (Tipp City/Tippecanoe), who was fifth in the 10,000-meter run; sophomore Justin Friday (Fort Washington, Md./Georgetown Day School (D.C.)), who placed seventh in the 200-meter dash; junior Quinton Broomfield (Gahanna/Lincoln), who finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles; Minic, who was eighth in the 100-meter dash; and sophomore Zach Thayer (Hilliard/Darby), who finished eighth in the discus.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of Isaiah, freshman Kudzovi Nuakey (Canal Winchester/Groveport Madison), Davis, and Broomfield finished fourth.
