We have a really close bond on and off the soccer field...
Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Lauren McMillin of the Ohio Wesleyan women's soccer team.
Name: Lauren McMillin
Class Year: Junior
Majors: Microbiology
How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose OWU because I knew I wanted to attend a smaller school in order to get the best academic experience, while also staying close to home since I’m very family oriented. I also loved the women’s soccer team and the coaching staff while I was going through the recruiting process.
How/Why did you choose your major?
I initially wanted to major in pre-medicine, however, after looking at all the pre-requirements, I decided it wasn’t for me. I took an Introduction to Microbiology course my freshman year and instantly fell in love with it. I believe that is what sparked my interest in deciding to major in it. My two plans after college are to either graduate with my microbiology degree and attend nursing school, or get into a cosmetic science graduate school program and become a cosmetic microbiologist/chemist.
Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
Throughout high school, I always knew I wanted to play soccer at the collegiate level. I attended many ID camps and decided that Division III was the best choice for me. Soccer was and still is a huge part of my life and I realized I wasn’t ready to let it go just yet.
What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
Personally, my favorite memory while being on the women’s soccer team was when the team and I traveled to the Cayman Islands for our international soccer trip. It was overall the best experience and it was super cool being able to play internationally against the Caymanian soccer team…and winning, of course!
Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
Before each game, I have a routine of listening to a specific playlist and putting on my game gear in a very particular order. If i don’t do those things, I feel disorganized and not prepared to play.
Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get to where you are?
I am incredibly grateful for my current coach, Becca Madison. I believe we have a really close bond on and off the soccer field and she truly has everyone’s best interest at heart. She was a huge factor when it came to deciding which college I wanted to attend, and I knew I wanted to play for her because she really is one of the most experienced, skilled and caring coaches I’ve ever met.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I would absolutely love having the ability to fly everywhere.
What is your favorite place to eat at in Delware, and what is your go-to dish there?
My favorite restaurant in Delaware is definitely Typhoon. One of my favorite foods is sushi, and they have the best seafood and sushi roll choices. My personal favorite sushi there is called the OWU Crunch roll. They also have really good sesame and orange chicken as well.
Which three people living or dead would you share a meal with?
On separate occasions, I’d die to eat a meal with Post Malone, Kylie Jenner or Alex Cooper.
When you're having a bad day, what do to make yourself feel better?
If it’s during the day, I normally go get myself my favorite coffee and try to be productive by doing homework. Or, sometimes I listen to music and just take some time for myself to relax and chill out for an hour or two. If it's night time, I tend to do a "self care" routine to help myself relax for the night and get ready for the next day.
