My coaches and my teammates have for sure helped me get to where I am...
Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Ian Jarvis of the Ohio Wesleyan men's swimming and diving team.
Name: Ian Jarvis
Class Year: Sophomore
Major: Psychology
How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because I knew I wanted a small school, and I knew I wanted to swim. Ohio Wesleyan met both of those standards and was the perfect distance from home. I also really enjoyed the visit I did before coming here, which was really what had totally convinced me.
How/Why did you choose your major?
I’m still not set in stone on my major, but I’m saying psychology at the moment because I’ve taken a few classes that I’ve really enjoyed.
Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan because I like to swim, so I figured I would like to do it for another 4 years. I could also tell that the program and the coaches were going to be a good fit for me.
What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of how I handled balancing athletics and academics my first year here. Hopefully I get better at that balance in the years to come.
What did you do to put yourself in a position to achieve that goal/accomplishment?
Mainly I made sure to try and give my best effort on everything, but I also made sure to give myself some mental breaks every now and again.
Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get to where you are?
Both my coaches and my teammates have for sure helped me get to where I am, but I would say my coach, Richard Hawes, and my teammate last year, Iain Anderson, have probably been the most influential.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Definitely teleportation.
What is your favorite place to eat at in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
I’m personally a fan of Victor's, and I either get the carne asada burrito or the taquitos.
What is your theme song?
Violet Light by Locals.
Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
Probably Eddie Van Halen, John Mayer, and Donald Glover.
