Name: Elliot Spicer
Class year: 2024
Majors: Economics, environmental science
Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose OWU because it is a small liberal arts college that gives all of the opportunities (if not more) of a large public university. There are so many opportunities for studying abroad, conducting research, and making friends. OWU also holds a competitive atmosphere within athletics that would have been hard to pass up.
Why did you choose your major?
Studying economics and environmental science is interesting to me because I enjoy the aspects that economics looks into, such as governmental policy. After conducting research in Iceland for an OWU Connection Theory-to-Practice grant, I realized that adding the environmental science major would be a good way to prepare for a career that can bring economics to the outdoors and sustainability.
Which is your favorite competition?
Doubles is my favorite in tennis. I enjoy being able to celebrate with a partner and the teamwork adds intensity to each tennis match.
What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
My favorite memory from OWU tennis is cheering on my teammates during matches. Tennis is a mental game, and being part of the crowd has a big impact on the outcome of the matches.
Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
I must win the last point during warm-ups. If the coach calls us over and I did not win the last point, I have to play another.
How did you choose your event/position?
Right now I play third doubles and sixth singles, but I challenge myself every day to move up the rankings on the team and grow as a player.
What is your theme song?
Everlong by the Foo Fighters
Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
Bjorn Borg, Elon Musk, and Bob the Bishop
What is your ideal travel destination?
Sweden
