Allegheny 92, Ohio Wesleyan 82

Senior guard Tyler Cordell (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) hit a jumper to tie the game at 74-74, but Allegheny pulled away down the stretch to post a North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

The Gators had built an 11-point lead early in the second half, and still held a 56-46 advantage with 12:13 remaining in regulation time when Ohio Wesleyan came back.

Cordell and senior guard Pam Quigney (Mentor) each hit a 3-pointer and a basket to spark a 12-3 outburst in a span of less than 3 minutes as the Bishops fought back to within 59-58 with 9:26 left in regulation time.

Allegheny's Saddie Gravatt ended the Bishop run with a 3-pointer, but freshman post Tamra Londot (Utica) and freshman guard Kalee Seagle (Hilliard/Darby) answered with buckets to tie the score, and when Cordell followed with a hoop, Ohio Wesleyan had its first lead since the 4:21 mark of the first half.

After Cordell tied the game at 74, Allegheny's Daryl Ford scored on a putback to give the Gators the lead for good, then scored on another putback for a 78-74 Allegheny lead with 3:20 left.

Senior post Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) brought the Bishops within 78-76 with 2:57 left, but Allegheny came back with a Britni Mohney 3-pointer to push the Gator lead back to 5 points.

Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 84-80 on Cordell's jumper from the lane with 1:20 remaining in regulation time, but 5 turnovers during the final minute of play doomed the Bishop comeback and allowed the Gators to salt the game away at the free throw line.

Cordell led the Bishops with 25 points and 6 assists. Gordon finished with 22 points, going 12-for-14 from the line, and snagged a team-best 9 rebounds. Quigney added 17 points.

Jill Gregory led the Gators with 25 points, while Ford and Gravatt added 16 points apiece and Erica Restich scored 15 points.
