Kenyon 2, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Kenyon's Alex Bair and Julie Freedman scored goals as the Ladies built a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
Bair gave the visitors a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, making a run from the right side toward the center of the field and sending a backhand shot inside the right post.
The Ladies bumped the lead to 2-0 when Annie Hulkower centered the ball to Freedman, whose shot from point-blank range found the back of the Bishop cage in the 26th minute.
Kenyon keeper Alex Britt made a couple of spectacular saves in preserving the shutout, first denying sophomore defender Jenna Ortega (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) with a diving save after a Bishop penalty corner in the 51st minute, then stopping a shot by junior defender Lauren Bailey (Toledo/Ottawa Hills) while moving to her left in the 57th minute.
The Kenyon defense also turned in a fine effort, essentially killing a man-down situation for the final 14 minutes of regulation time, including a brief stretch where the Ladies were down 2 players. Bair was sent off in the 56th minute after picking up her second green card of the game, and Freedman sat out the remainder of the contest after receiving a yellow card in the 65th minute.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Kenyon, 12-8. Sophomore Emily Temple (Dublin/Scioto) had 1 save in the Ohio Wesleyan cage. Britt finished with 8 saves for the Ladies.
