Ohio Wesleyan 66, Wooster 57

Freshman guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman) had 14 points and 7 assists as the Bishops built a 19-point halftime lead, and Ohio Wesleyan withstood a second-half Wooster rally to post a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Fighting Scots on Wednesday in Wooster.

The Bishops raced to an 11-2 lead behind a hoop from sophomore post Tamra Londot (Utica), a McQuade 3-pointer, and a pair of trifectas from sophomore wing Julia Grimsley (Alliance).

Wooster chipped away at the deficit, closing to 13-9 at the 13:15 mark of the first half, but 3-pointers by McQuade and freshman wing Mary Corbett (Columbus/Upper Arlington) fueled an 8-0 run that moved the lead back into double digits.

Ohio Wesleyan closed out the first half with a 12-2 burst that included a 3-pointer and a traditional 3-point play from freshman wing Caroline Welker (Delaware/Hayes), another Corbett 3-pointer, and a buzzer-beating bomb by McQuade that gave the Bishops a 44-25 lead.

The Bishops still led, 50-38, after a Londot jumper with 12:08 remaining when the Scots rallied with an 8-0 run highlighted by a Maura Hall 3-point play and a 3-pointer from Karley Walker.

Freshman post LaNiece McRae (Youngstown/Chaney) ended the Bishops' scoring drought with a jumper at the 7:45 mark, and Grimsley followed with a 3-pointer to give Ohio Wesleyan a 55-46 lead with just over 7 minutes to play.

Jessica Wingen hit a free throw to bring Wooster within 55-47, but that would be as close as the Scots would come.  A McRae jumper and a pair of Londot free throws pushed the lead back into double digits, and the margin would stay there until Wooster's Suvi Puripattarapan hit a jumper in the closing seconds.

McQuade shared the team lead with 16 points and dished out 8 assists, while Londot also scored 16 points and shared the team lead with 6 rebounds.  Grimsley finished with 11 points and McRae shared the team lead with 6 boards.

Puripattarapan led Wooster with 20 points.
