DePauw 74, Ohio Wesleyan 37

Sixth-ranked DePauw opened the game with a 16-2 run and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Ali Ross opened the scoring with a steal and lay-in, and after a 3-pointer from Kate Walker, the Tigers tacked on a Katie Aldrich lay-in for a 7-0 lead less than 2 minutes into the action.

Freshman post LaNiece McRae (Youngstown/Chaney) put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a lay-in at the 17:09 mark, but DePauw answered with hoops by Aldrich and Ellie Pearson, a Pearson free throw, an Aldrich lay-in off another Ross steal, and a pair of Savannah Trees free throws.

DePauw pulled away with a pair of 10-0 runs later in the half, the latter extending the Tigers' lead to 36-6 with 2:26 remaining in the period.  The DePauw defense held Ohio Wesleyan to 22 percent shooting during the first half while forcing 16 turnovers.

The Bishops improved during the second half, connecting on 50 percent of their field goal attempts, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.

Sophomore post Tamra Londot (Utica) led the Bishops with 8 points.  Freshman post Kristin Henning (Beavercreek) grabbed a team-high 5 rebounds, and freshman guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman) collected 3 assists.

Trees led DePauw with 12 points.
