Box Score
Capital 67, Ohio Wesleyan 59

Sophomore wing Mary Corbett (Columbus/Upper Arlington) hit a 3-pointer that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 37-32 lead early in the second half, but Capital responded with a 12-1 run to take the lead for good and went on to post a non-conference win over the Bishops on Wednesday in Columbus.

Capital had raced to an early 10-2 lead as Monica Heckman and Stacy Timmerman each contributed a pair of baskets, and Crusaders would extend their lead to 28-18 on a fast-break lay-in by Simonne Gage with 3:52 left in the period.

The Bishops erupted with a 14-2 burst to close out the half, starting with a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman), then adding a pair of free throws by McQuade.  A McQuade fast-break lay-in brought the Bishops within 30-27, and freshman wing Emily Julius (Avon) followed with a putback to make it 30-29 before McQuade converted a 3-point play to give Ohio Wesleyan a 32-30 lead at the break.

After the teams traded baskets to open the second half, Corbett's 3-pointer gave the Bishops their biggest lead of the night at 37-32 with 17:01 left in regulation time.

Timmerman answered with a jumper to close the deficit to 37-34, and after junior post Tamra Londot (Utica) hit the first of 2 free throws, the Crusaders countered with scores from Jamie Caton and Gage to tie the game at the 13:52 mark.  Kristin Reisinger followed with a pair of free throws, and buckets from Caton and Cookie Geroski gave Capital a 44-38 lead with 12:31 to go.

Junior wing Julia Grimsley (Alliance) knocked down a 3-pointer to end a stretch of more than 5 minutes without a basket, and the Bishops crept to within 44-42 when McQuade hit the second of 2 free throws with 11:19 left.

Grimsley buried another 3-pointer to make it a 48-45 game midway through the half, but Capital scored the next 6 points to push the lead back to 9, and the Crusaders would have an answer for each Bishop threat.

McQuade's lay-in with :49 remaining in regulation time made it a 2-possession game at 63-57, but Capital sealed the verdict at the line, with Gage and Geroski each hitting a pair of free throws during the final seconds.

McQuade led the Bishops with 19 points and shared the team lead with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  Grimsley and Julius finished with 10 points apiece, with Julius adding 6 rebounds, and Corbett shared the team lead with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Caton and Gage had 16 points apiece for Capital.
