Schnell Sparks Men's Lacrosse Start

Ohio Wesleyan 15, Aurora 3

Sophomore midfielder Spencer Schnell (Dublin/Jerome) scored twice during a 6-0 first-quarter run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a non-conference win over Aurora on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

Senior midfielder David Walter (Glen Ridge, N.J.) staked the Bishops to a 1-0 lead at the 11:56 mark, and junior midfielder Pat Bassett (Naperville, Ill./North) and Schnell followed with goals less than a minute apart before freshman attacker Edwin Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) added a score for a 4-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead at the midway point of the first period.

Freshman attacker Tommy Minkler (Oakton, Va./Landon School) and Schnell added goals during the waning moments of the quarter to give the Bishops a 6-0 advantage.

Foster and Minkler added goals early in the second period to extend the Bishop lead to 8-0.

Aurora's Danny Loyall put the Spartans on the scoreboard with a man-up goal with 6:49 left in the first half, but the Bishops got goals from Minkler and Foster just 33 seconds apart late in the period as Ohio Wesleyan took a 10-1 halftime lead.

Minkler tallied the Bishops' only goal of the third period, and Bassett added 3 goals during the fourth quarter.

Minkler led the Bishops with 4 goals and 2 assists.  Foster finished with 3 goals and 2 assists, Bassett scored 4 goals, and Schnell added 3 goals and an assist.

Freshman Ryan McMahon (Springfield, Va./The Bullis School) stopped 7 shots in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.

Jordan Williams had a goal and 2 assists for Aurora.  Loyall and Garret Rosiek also scored Spartan goals.  Adam Holka recorded 12 saves.
