2nd of 12 at Strimer Memorial Invitational
Freshman Jon Neroni (Kettering/Alter) led the Bishops at the Strimer Memorial Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday and Sunday at Oakhaven Golf Club.
Columbus State won the tournament with a 2-day total of 615, finishing 6 shots ahead of Ohio Wesleyan. Denison was third at 623, followed by Ohio Dominican (624), Wooster (631), Wittenberg (633), Adrian (644), West Virginia Wesleyan (646), Franklin (650), Albion (653), Kenyon (754), and Oberlin (798).
Neroni tied for second place in the individual standings at 152, finishing 2 strokes behind medalist Ash Alstadt of Columbus State.
Junior Jerry Moore (Mogadore) tied for 14th place with a 156, senior Nate Fridley (Sidney/Lehman Catholic) and senior Caleb Chiero (Westerville/Central) finished in a tie for 24th place at 158, and sophomore Tyler Carney-DeBord (Delaware/Hayes) tied for 34th place with a 160.
Ohio Wesleyan golfers competing as individuals included senior Justin Akers (Richwood/North Union), who tied for seventh place with a 154; freshman Kaneat Nimcharoenwan (Bangkok, Thailand/Buckeye Valley), who tied for 24th place at 158; and freshman Cal Axe (Toledo/Central Catholic), who tied for 34th place with a 160.
The Strimer Memorial Invitational honors the memory of coach Bob Strimer, who was involved in Ohio Wesleyan athletics for over half a century. During his tenure at Ohio Wesleyan, he served as athletics director for 22 years. He also served as head basketball coach, head golf coach, head baseball coach and was an assistant coach in football and track & field. After his retirement, Strimer remained active in athletics, alumni and development affairs for over 2 decades.
