Malone 3, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Ohio Wesleyan 2, Malone 1

Senior outfielder Seth Frentsos (Delaware/Hayes) scored the game-winning run in the top of the 14th inning as Ohio Wesleyan nipped Malone in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Friday in Canton.

In the opener, a trio of Pioneer pitchers combined on a 5-hit shutout as Malone took the win.

With one down in the top of the 14th inning, Frentsos walked.  Malone pitcher Tyler Whitlach threw wildly to first base in an attempt to pick Frentsos off, with Frentsos sailing into third on the play.  Pioneer second baseman Logan Gray retrieved the ball but threw wildly to third base, with Frentsos scoring the go-ahead run.

Sophomore righthander Billy Cooper (Westerville/Central), who had taken over on the mound in the 10th inning and blanked Malone on 2 hits, retired the Pioneers in order to nail down the win.

Malone had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Anderson reached on a fielder's choice and scored when sophomore outfielder Jack Lawson (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) misplayed a ball off the bat of Bob Suitca.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the game in the fifth as Frentsos singled with 2 out, moved to third when freshman catcher Collin Finn (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) reached on an error by Gray, and scored on Lawson's single to left.

The Bishops threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but Lawson struck out and junior second baseman Zach Bott (Dublin/Coffman) flied out to end the inning.

After surrendering the unearned run in the first, treshman lefthander Charles Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) allowed only one runner past first base during the rest of his 4.0-inning stint.  Junior righthander Steve Skarsten (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe) followed with 5.0 innings of shutout relief, allowing only one runner past first, and Billy Cooper finished the game to collect the victory.

Malone took a first-inning lead in the opener, loading the bases with nobody out before Suitca singled in a run and another run scored as T.J. Rosenberg bounced into a double play.  Rosenberg plated another run with an infield out in the sixth.

The Bishops had 2 on with one out in both the second and third frames, but were not able to get the tying runs around to score.

Junior righthander Brandon Sega (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Jared Messer was the winning pitcher for Malone, and Nate Morrison worked a scoreless seventh to record a save.
