Sophomore shortstop Erica Bryan (Wapakoneta) singled and scored twice to help Ohio Wesleyan to a win over North Coast Athletic Conference champion Allegheny the nightcap of an NCAC doubleheader on Sunday in Meadville, Pa.
In the opener, junior catcher Brooke Nethers (Newark/Licking Valley) slammed a home run to give the Bishops a 1-0 lead, but the Gators scored 4 straight runs to take the win.
Allegheny took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap on Maureen Pallone's RBI single in the bottom of the second, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with a pair of runs in the third.
Bryan singled with one out, then moved to second on a single by freshman first baseman Cassi Ladina (Dublin/Coffman). After the runners moved to second and third in a passed ball, senior first baseman Jackie Kolovich (Newton Falls/Warren Kennedy) followed with an infield single, scoring Bryan, with Ladina coming around to score on Allegheny rightfielder Leah Herlocker's error on the play.
Bryan also started off the Bishops' 3-run seventh, again lining a one-out single, then stealing second and scoring on Ladina's double. Senior second baseman Abby Walsh (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) and freshman outfielder Chelsea Denman (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) added RBI singles later in the inning to account for the 5-1 final.
Sophomore righthander Tamra Londot (Utica) scattered 4 hits in pitching the complete game. She struck out 2 and walked one.
Natalie Persicano was the starting and losing pitcher for Allegheny.
Nethers' solo shot in the third was Ohio Wesleyan's first hit off Gator starter Caitlin Nealer and gave the Bishops a 1-0 lead.
Allegheny took the lead in the fifth as Sadie Stuart led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Nealer's single, with Nealer moving to second on the throw to the plate. Herlocker followed with a single to score Nealer with the go-ahead run.
The Gators added some insurance in the sixth on a 2-run double by Pallone.
Junior righthander Amanda Barker (Granville) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, striking out 5 and walking none.
Nealer finished with a 3-hitter for Allegheny.
