Freshman wing Emily Julius (Avon) scored 6 points during an 8-0 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but Allegheny pulled away down the stretch to post a North Coast Athletic Conference win on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.
The Bishops trailed, 27-19, after a lay-in by Jessica Mrdjenovich, but sophomore guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman) scored the final 4 points of the half to narrow the gap to 29-26 at the break.
Allegheny extended the lead back to 5 points on a pair of buckets by Emma Pellicano, giving the Gators a 33-28 lead just over a minute into the second period.
Julius sank a pair of free throws, then hit a lay-in, and baskets by McQuade and Julius put Ohio Wesleyan ahead, 36-33, at the 16:14 mark.
Ohio Wesleyan still led, 39-37, after Julius split a pair of free throws with 14:06 remaining, but the Gators then went on an 8-0 run highlighted by back-to-back Marina Scarantino 3-pointers to take the lead for good.
A Julius lay-in brought Ohio Wesleyan within 45-41 with 10:25 to play, but Allegheny sealed the win with a 16-4 run, with Pellicano hitting a pair of lay-ins, Iffie Uwazie adding a pair of hoops, and Daryl Ford capping the run with a pair of baskets that gave the visitors a 61-47 advantage.
Julius led the Bishops with 14 points, while McQuade finished with 12 points and sophomore post Kristin Henning (Beavercreek) scored 10 points.
Ford led Allegheny with 18 points, and Pellicano added 16 points and 13 rebounds.
