at NCAC heptathlon
Senior Emily Amburgey (Germantown/Preble Shawnee) won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in the pentathlon during the combined events portion of the NCAC championship meet, hosted by the College of Wooster on Saturday and Sunday in Wooster.
Amburgey finished second overall with 2949 points, breaking the school record of 2789 set by Lainey Kekic in 2011. Amburgey started out the meet by posting the best efforts in the 60-meter hurdles (:09.58) and the high jump (5-3¾). She went 16-1 in the long jump, the third-best leap of the meet, was fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of 26-3½, and finished 13th in the 800-meter run in 2:49.80.
Also placing for the Bishops was senior Clare Duffy (Concord/Painesville Riverside), who finished eighth overall. Duffy had the meet's third-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles (:09.73), tied for sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15-½, was eighth overall in the shot put (25-5½) and 800-meter run (2:40.12), and was ninth in the high jump (4-8¾).
Freshman Sara Johnson (Dublin/Coffman) also represented the Bishops, placing 12th overall. Johnson was seventh in both the 60-meter hurdles (:09.81) and shot put (25-6), tied for ninth in the long jump (14-8¾), was 11th in the high jump (4-2¾), and 12th in the 800-meter run (2:47.80).
The NCAC championship meet resumes on Friday in Wooster.
