Londot Sparks Bishop Run in Win at Allegheny

Senior post Tamra Londot (Utica) tallied the final 6 points of an 8-0 second-half run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and a 3-pointer by junior wing Caroline Welker (Delaware/Hayes) highlighted another 8-0 run that open up a double-digit lead as the Bishops went on to record a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

Ohio Wesleyan raced to a 7-0 lead on a Londot lay-in sandwiched by a jumper and a 3-pointer by senior wing Julia Grimsley (Alliance), but Allegheny countered with an 11-0 run that included 7 straight points by Rachel Vigliotti.  The rest of the half unfolded in similar fashion, with the lead changing hands 10 times before the period ended in a 34-34 stalemate.

The Bishops trailed, 41-40, when sophomore guard Hanna Fedorka (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) scored to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and Londot followed with 6 consecutive points to extend the lead to 48-41 with 13:21 to play.

Londot's lay-in with 9:41 remaining pushed the Bishop lead into double digits at 56-46, and after Jessica Mrdjenovich answered with a  lay-in for the Gators, Londot converted a 3-point play, Welker knocked down a 3-pointer, and junior post Kristin Henning (Beavercreek) added a jumper for a 64-48 Ohio Wesleyan advantage.

Allegheny rallied to within 70-62 on a Emma Pellicano 3-point play with 2:45 remaining, but Ohio Wesleyan put the game away on the free throw line, going 8-for-11 from the stripe to seal the outcome.

Londot led the Bishops with 17 points and shared the team lead with 8 rebounds, while Henning finished with 14 points and 8 boards.  Sophomore post Emily Julius (Avon) and junior post LaNiece McRae (Youngstown/Chaney) added 12 points apiece.

Vigliotti led Allegheny with 23 points.
