Ohio Wesleyan 10, Otterbein 5

Junior attacker John Umbach (Montclair, N.J.) scored a pair of first-half goals to help Ohio Wesleyan take a 5-2 halftime lead, then added 2 more scores in the third quarter as the Bishops pulled away for a non-conference win over Otterbein on Saturday in New Albany, Ohio.  The game was originally scheduled to be played at Otterbein, but the Cardinals' home field was unplayable, forcing the contest to move to New Albany High School.

Umbach put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a man-up goal less than 90 seconds into the game, and senior attacker Casey Helms (Sandwich, Mass./Bridgton Academy) added a score later in the period for a 2-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

The Bishops struck quickly again in the second quarter, with junior attacker Tommy Minkler (Oakton, Va./Landon School) scoring during the first minute of the period and Helms adding a man-up goal at the 12:31 mark to increase the Bishop lead to 4-0.

Otterbein got into the scoring column on Pat Teynor's goal less than a minute later, but Umbach answered with a man-up score at the 10:31 mark to give the Bishops a 5-1 edge.

The Cardinals closed to within 5-2 on a Mike Dattolo goal, and were still within 6-3 after Dattolo's man-up goal midway through the third quarter.

Ohio Wesleyan pulled away with a pair of goals in rapid-fire succession, with junior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) scoring at the 1:43 mark of the third quarter and Umbach adding a man-up score with :45 to play in the period.  When senior midfielder Spencer Schnell (Dublin/Jerome) opened the fourth quarter with a goal, then assisted Foster on a man-up score with 10:26 to play, Ohio Wesleyan had extended its lead to 10-3.

Umbach led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Foster finished with 2 goals and 2 assists and Schnell added a goal and 2 assists.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan McMahon (Springfield, Va./The Bullis School) went the distance in the Bishop crease, finishing with 12 saves.

Teynor and Dattolo scored 2 goals apiece for Otterbein.  James Gundling and John Brandon combined for 13 saves in the Cardinal goal.
