Ohio Wesleyan had taken a 5-4 halftime lead on a score by junior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) during the final minute of the first half, but the Tigers got a goal from Duncan Morris during the opening minute of the second half to even the game at 5.

The Tigers ended that run with a James Hughes goal early in the fourth period, but Ohio Wesleyan had an answer as Foster set up junior attacker Tommy Minkler (Oakton, Va./Landon School) on a goal, then assisted Umbach on another goal in the closing minutes.

Hampden-Sydney had taken a 1-0 lead on Thomas Armstrong's goal at the 10:51 mark of the first quarter, but Helms responded with a goal just 40 seconds later, followed by scores from Umbach and Minkler that gave the Bishops a 3-1 lead.

The Tigers rallied behind a pair of goals from Armstrong and another by Jake Koferl to knot the game at 4 before Foster's goal provided a 5-4 Bishop lead at the break.
