Box Score Ohio Wesleyan 13, Wooster 5Senior attacker Casey Helms (Sandwich, Mass./Bridgton Academy) and junior attacker John Umbach (Montclair, N.J.) each scored twice as Ohio Wesleyan took a 6-1 halftime lead on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Friday at Selby Stadium.
Umbach broke a scoreless tie with a goal at the 4:11 mark of the first quarter, and the Bishops tallied twice during the final minute of the period. Junior midfielder Brendan Bouchard (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) scored with :34 remaining and Helms beat the first-quarter horn with a goal at the :03 mark to increase the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 3-0.
Helms scored again just :26 into the second quarter, and freshman midfielder Matt Maier (Summit, N.J.) followed with a goal midway through the period to increase the Bishop lead to 5-0.
Josh Herold put Wooster on the scoreboard with exactly 7:00 left in the period, but Umbach answered with a man-up goal just over a minute later to give the Bishops a 6-1 lead at the half.
Umbach scored twice and Helms once during the third quarter, increasing the Bishop lead to 9-1, and each added a goal during a 3-0 fourth-quarter run.
Helms and Umbach finished with 5 goals apiece, while junior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) contributed a goal and 3 assists. Junior Ryan McMahon (Springfield, Va./The Bullis School) and freshman Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) combined for 8 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.
Herold led Wooster with a goal and an assist. Matt Magoon finished with 18 saves in the Wooster crease.
