Ohio Wesleyan 16, Wittenberg 4

Junior attacker Tommy Minkler (Oakton, Va./Landon School) scored 3 goals during a 10-0 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a win over Wittenberg in the Bishops' North Coast Athletic Conference finale on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

The win clinched second place in the NCAC standings for Ohio Wesleyan.  The Bishops will host third-seeded Kenyon in an NCAC tournament semifinal game on Wednesday, with the starting time to be announced on Monday.

Wittenberg drew first blood on Jack Bornhofen's man-up goal midway through the first quarter.

It was all Ohio Wesleyan from there, however.  Junior attacker John Umbach (Montclair, N.J.) and Minkler scored goals to give the Bishops a 2-1 lead after the first quarter.

Ohio Wesleyan erupted for 6 goals during the second quarter, with Minkler setting up junior midfielder Brendan Bouchard (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) for a score at the 13:14 mark, Umbach adding another score with 9:43 remaining, and Minkler scoring a pair of goals midway through the period.  Goals by senior attacker Casey Helms (Sandwich, Mass./Bridgton Academy) and junior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)), the latter with just :09 left in the half, gave the Bishops an 8-1 lead at the intermission.

Bouchard opened the third-quarter scoring with a man-up goal at the 6:36 mark, and Helms followed with a goal to increase the Bishop lead to 10-1 with 3:45 remaining in the quarter.

T.J. Smith ended Wittenberg's scoring drought of more than 36 minutes with a goal in the final minute of the third period.

Ohio Wesleyan slammed the door by scoring the first 3 goals of the fourth quarter, collecting goals by Helms, Bouchard, and freshman midfielder Dallas Reed (Huntersville, N.C./Hough) to take a 13-2 lead.

Helms led the Bishops with 3 goals and 2 assists, while Minkler and Bouchard each finished with 3 goals and an assist.  Junior Ryan McMahon (Springfield, Va./The Bullis School) recorded 5 saves during the first 3 quarters, and freshman Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) and freshman Akil Goodridge (Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain) manned the Ohio Wesleyan goal during the fourth quarter.

Sean Kelleher led Wittenberg with a goal and an assist.  Jay Dolan and Aaron Blossey combined for 10 saves in the Tiger cage.
