DELAWARE, OHIO - University of Mount Union junior Sean Donnelly added to what's been an already-remarkable weekend for the Purple Raiders during the second day of the 2014 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track on the Ohio Wesleyan campus.

Adding to an already-full cadre of personal accolades both indoors and outdoors, Donnelly, one day after tossing the hammer 216-7, the third-longest effort in NCAA Division III history, came back and bested the 20-thrower field in the shot put with a throw of 58-6½. Donnelly became a three-time individual champion and five-time indoor and outdoor All-American combined with his marks Thursday and Friday, as he already owned the indoor weight throw title.

Donnelly's win brought Mount Union to within a point of the lead in the team standings.  North Central held the second-day lead with 23 points, followed by Mount Union with 22 points.  Wisconsin-Eau Claire was in third place with 18 points, while Carthage and Wisconsin-La Crosse were tied for fourth place, each with 12 points.

The double-win for the Purple Raiders was extra special this week. He became the second UMU student-athlete to gain a double outdoors, joining Dave Cooper's sweep of the 5000 and 10,000. Moore was honored earlier this week with an induction into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division III Hall of Fame.

Richard Roethel of Christopher Newport became a four-time All-American in the decathlon and found himself atop the podium in a final day neck-and-neck battle with returning national runner-up Brandon Zarnoth of UW-Eau Claire. Roethel used a win in the javelin to fuel his rally to 7086 points.

Wilmington College added the Ohio Athletic Conference's strong start to the championships. Senior high jumper Christian Patterson, the Quakers' first outdoor men's national champion and a combined four-time indoor and outdoor All-American, cleared 6-11½ to slip past a three-way tie for second between Trevor James of Carthage, Steven Vazquez of Rhode Island College and Carl Joseph of UMass-Boston who each cleared 6-10¼.

In the day-two preliminaries, defending 110-meter high hurdle champion Jake Campbell of Salisbury flexed his muscles by turning in the top preliminary time of :13.91, good for a new Selby Stadium record; Chancise Watkins of La Verne led a very fleet qualifying field in the 400-meter dash, clocking a :47.02 which was one of seven sub-48 second marks; Baldwin-Wallace's Kevin Johnson nosed out Greenville's Bruce Gray by seven-hundredths of a second for the top time in the 100-meter dash preliminaries (10.51 – 10.58); and Johns Hopkins' Andrew Carey turned in the fastest mark in the 800-meter run (1:49.67).
