Box Score Oberlin 71, Ohio Wesleyan 59Sophomore post Taylor Dickson (Baltimore/Liberty Union) scored 5 points during a 10-0 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but Oberlin came back to take a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday in Oberlin.
The win was Oberlin's first over Ohio Wesleyan since Jan. 24, 2004, when the Yeowomen defeated the Bishops by a score of 63-60 in Oberlin.
Senior guard Kristin Henning (Beavercreek) sank a pair of free throws and a lay-in to give the Bishops an early 11-8 lead, but Oberlin evened the game at 19 on a Christina Marquette lay-in and took a 23-19 lead on hoops from Tyler Parlor and Abby Andrews.
Ohio Wesleyan responded by scoring the next 10 points, collecting a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Megan Kuether (Osgood/Marion Local), a pair of free throws by junior guard Hanna Fedorka (North Canton/Massillon Jackson), and a 3-pointer and a lay-in by Dickson to take a 29-23 lead with 4:27 left in the first half.
Three-pointers by Marquette and Caroline Hamilton, along with a Hamilton 3-point play, helped Oberlin take a 34-33 lead in the final minute of the half, and Marquette's 3-pointer with :03 in the period gave the Yeowomen a 37-35 lead at the intermission.
Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 51-49 on lay-ins by senior post LaNiece McRae (Youngstown/Chaney) and junior post Emily Julius (Avon), the latter with 11:03 left in the game.
The Yeowomen then took off on a 13-2 run that included a pair of lay-ins by Parlor and Hamilton, a lay-in by Lindsey Bernhardt, and a Marquette 3-pointer, giving Oberlin a 64-51 lead with 6:08 to play, and the lead would remain in double figures through the remainder of the game.
McRae led the Bishops with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Julius finished with 14 points, Henning scored 10 points and led the Bishops with 4 assists, and Dickson added 10 points.
Marquette led Oberlin with 26 points.
