1st of 6 at Corbiere-Merion InvitationalJunior Anne Edwards (Golf, Ill./Glenbrook South) set 2 school records in one race and freshman Sam Curtin (Delaware/Hayes) broke a school record twice during Sunday's session of the Corbiere-Merion Invitational, and Ohio Wesleyan went on to win the team title in the annual event hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday and Sunday at the Meek Center.
Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 996 points to 677 for Davis & Elkins. Wilmington finished third with 522 points, followed by Manchester (352), Urbana (301), and Ursuline (249).
Edwards won the 1650 freestyle in 17:42.86, breaking the school record of 17:45.98 she set in 2014. Edwards covered the first 1000 yards of the race in 10:40.80, breaking the school record of 10:55.82 she set in 2014.
Curtin won the 50 freestyle in :24.74, breaking the school record of :24.90 set by Kendra Klossner in 2009. Later in the day, she combined with freshman Alicia Margello (Powell/Bishop Watterson), freshman Beth Ward (Delaware/Hayes), and sophomore Grace Bulchik (Lakewood) to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.51. Curtin's leadoff leg of :24.58 broke the hours-old 50 freestyle record she set earlier in the meet.
Margello and Ward also won events for Ohio Wesleyan, Margello touching first in the 100 IM in 1:02.87 and Ward winning the 400 IM in 4:44.58.
Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Kate West (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn), who finished second in the 1650 freestyle; freshman Shannon Bermingham (Orchard Park, N.Y.), who was fourth in the 400 IM; senior Tirion Sheafor (Cornelius, N.C./NW Visual-Performing Arts), who placed fifth in the 400 IM; freshman Allie Niemeyer (Oregon, Wis./Stoughton), who finished fifth in the 1650 freestyle; sophomore Kari Lynn Seymour (Dayton/Centerville), who placed sixth in the 100 IM; Bulchik, who was sixth in the 50 freestyle; and senior Haley Sheafor (Cornelius, N.C./NW Visual-Performing Arts), who finished sixth in the 400 IM.
The Ohio Wesleyan 400 medley relay team of senior Emmalee Nerantzis (Rockville, Md./Home), senior Rhiannon Herbert (Mentor), Tirion Sheafor, and Haley Sheafor finished second.
The Corbiere/Merion Invitational honors the memory of Payson Corbiere '96 and T'ai Merion '96, who were members of the Ohio Wesleyan men's swimming team.
