Box Score Capital 73, Ohio Wesleyan 51Junior post Taylor Dickson (Baltimore/Liberty Union) scored to tie the game at 2-2, but Capital responded with an 18-3 run to take the lead for good and went on to record a non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan in the Bishops' home opener on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Arena.
Dickson's lay-in evened the game exactly one minute into the action.
Capital took the lead as Colleen Fondessy sank a pair of free throws and followed with a fast-break lay-in, then hit another jumper from the lane.
Junior guard Megan Kuether (Osgood/Marion Local) knocked down a 3-pointer to bring the Bishops within 8-5 with 7:07 left in the first quarter, but the Crusaders answered with a 3-point play by Jenna Erwin, a Fondessy lay-in, and an Erwin 3-pointer before consecutive lay-ins from Chelsea Pla finished off the Capital run.
Ohio Wesleyan rallied to within 20-13 late in the quarter as Kuether hit a jumper from the lane and a 3-pointer, but Capital got a 3-point play by Kristen Thompson to close out the first quarter, then opened the second period with 3-point plays from Nina Napolitano and Erwin, and the Crusader lead would remain in double figures for the rest of the evening.
Dickson led the Bishops with 18 points, while Kuether finished with 16 points. Senior guard Hanna Fedorka (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) had a team-high 5 rebounds and shared the Bishop lead with 4 assists, and freshman guard Erin Delaney (Toledo/Notre Dame Academy) also shared the team lead with 4 assists.
Erwin and Thompson had 15 points apiece for Capital.
