Ohio Wesleyan University junior Sarah Fowler (Mount Vernon/Fredericktown) was named Ohio Women's Division III Runner of the Year in a vote of Ohio cross country coaches, it was announced by the Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association.
Fowler won All-America honors at the NCAA Division III championship meet on Nov. 21, finishing 24th in a time of 21:41.40 for the 6000-meter course to become Ohio Wesleyan's third All-American in women's cross country. She was making her third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division III championship meet. In 2014, she competed as an individual in the meet held at Mason, Ohio, and finished 94th. In 2013, she was part of the team that made Ohio Wesleyan's first national appearance since 1982, and finished 146th among individuals in the race at Hanover, Ind.
Fowler finished sixth among individuals in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship meet on Nov. 14. She covered the 6000-meter course in 22:06.7 to win all-region honors for the third consecutive season. The sixth-place finish was her best in a regional championship meet, improving on her ninth-place finish in 2014 and her 26th-place showing in 2013.
She won North Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Year honors at the NCAC championship meet on Oct. 31. Fowler won the race in 22:32.4 for the 6000-meter course. It was her third consecutive first-team All-NCAC citation, following a fourth-place finish in 2014 and a sixth-place showing and NCAC Newcomer of the Year laurels in 2013.
Fowler won All-Ohio honors at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship meet on Oct. 2, posting Ohio Wesleyan's best-ever individual finish at the All-Ohio meet with an eighth-place showing, covering the 6000-meter course in 21:48.50. Fowler finished second among Division III runners in the meet, with her second-place divisional finish the Bishops' best since 1993.
