Box Score Ohio Wesleyan 58, Allegheny 56Sophomore post Taylor Dickson (Baltimore/Liberty Union) scored with :19 left to cap a game-ending 11-1 run and give Ohio Wesleyan the lead, and the Bishops withstood a potential game-tying possession to nip Allegheny in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.
Allegheny had taken a 55-47 lead on Emma Pellicano's lay-in with 5:42 left in the contest.
Dickson buried a 3-pointer on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession, and after a Gator miss, senior post LaNiece McRae (Youngstown/Chaney) scored from inside to bring the Bishops within 55-52 with 4:46 to go.
Dickson's steal and lay-in made it a 55-54 game with 3:04 to play.
The Gators ended their dry spell of more than 4 minutes when Rachel Vigliotti hit the second of 2 free throws for a 56-54 lead with 1:54 remaining.
McRae answered with a lay-in on the other end to even the score at 56 with 1:36 to play, then blocked a shot by Allegheny's Marina Scarantino with :46 left.
Dickson's lay-in, courtesy of a feed from sophomore guard Megan Kuether (Osgood/Marion Local), gave Ohio Wesleyan a 58-56 lead with :19 left.
Scarantino misfired on a jumper with :04 to play, and McRae controlled the defensive rebound to give the Bishops the win.
The first half was a back-and-forth performance that included 4 ties and a handful of lead changes. The Bishops held 4-point leads on 3 different occasions, which were the largest leads of the game during the period.
Allegheny opened the second half with lay-ins by Pellicano and Vigliotti to tke the lead, and the Gators expanded the margin to 7 points on a Vigliotti 3-pointer and a lay-in by Ifeyinwa Uwazie.
The Bishops wiped out that lead with a 7-0 run that included a pair of McRae free throws and a Dickson lay-in that tied the game at 37, only to see Allegheny counter with a 7-0 run fueled by a lay-in and a 3-pointer by Pellicano.
Dickson led the Bishops with 22 points. McRae finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Kuether and senior guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman) shared the Ohio Wesleyan lead with 3 assists.
Pellicano led Allegheny with 15 points.
