Leyden put the Bishops on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal just 48 seconds into the game, but Tyler McWilliams countered with a goal for the Maroons 10 seconds after that to even the game at 1-1.
The Bishops took the lead for good midway through the quarter when senior midfielder Brendan Bouchard (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and junior attacker Marcus Dietz (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) scored goals only 20 seconds apart for a 3-1 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
After Chad Smith's goal brought Roanoke within 3-2 with 4:49 left in the period, the Bishops went on their 5-0 run.
Leyden scored off a feed from Deitz with 1:45 left in the quarter, and sophomore midfielder Derek Todd (Edina, Minn.) followed with a goal with :19 left in the period for a 5-2 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
Freshman defenseman Trent Schulte (Coronado, Calif.) opened the second-period scoring with an unassisted goal, senior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) notched a man-up goal at the 8:46 mark, and Leyden finished off the Bishop run with an unassisted goal that made it 8-2 with 7:37 left in the first half.
Roanoke would score twice during the quarter, but both times, senior attacker Tommy Minkler (Oakton, Va./Landon School) answered with a goal to keep the Bishops in front. Minkler's second goal came just 7 seconds after the Maroons scored to close within 9-4 with 38 seconds left in the half.
Leyden, Dietz, and junior midfielder Sean Roskamp (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) opened the third quarter with goals, and after Kevin Jackson tallied a man-up goal for the Maroons, Leyden and senior midfielder Chris Schwanz (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) closed out the period with goals that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 15-5 lead after 3 quarters.
Senior attacker Edwin Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) scored 3 goals during the fourth quarter.
Leyden finished with 5 goals for Ohio Wesleyan, while Dietz collected 3 goals and 3 assists. Senior Ryan McMahon (Springfield, Va./The Bullis School) made 14 saves in the Bishop crease.
McWilliams and Colin Mackenzie had a goal and an assist apiece to lead the Maroons. Dylan Torrey, Jared Mercandante, and Connor Poss combined for 19 saves in the Roanoke goal.
