Senior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) scored the game-winning goal and sophomore defenseman Jordan Carlson (Delaware/Hayes) forced a timely turnover to give third-ranked Ohio Wesleyan a win over Albion in an NCAA Division III second-round matchup on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

Ohio Wesleyan advances to face Gettysburg (Pa.) in an NCAA Division III quarterfinal on Wednesday.  Gettysburg advanced in the tournament with a 10-9 double-overtime win over Ursinus (Pa.) in second-round action on Saturday.  The win was the Bishops' 18th of the season, tying the school record for wins in a season set by the 1985 team.  The win also extended Ohio Wesleyan's winning streak to a school-record 18 games.

Albion tied the game at 11-11 on a goal by Zach Hubbell with 3:44 left in regulation time, and senior attacker Edwin Foster (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) was called for a slashing penalty, giving the Britons a man-up situation for the next minute.

Senior midfielder Sam Gioseffi (Harrison, N.Y.) won the ensuing face-off and collected the ground ball, and Ohio Wesleyan was able to kill the penalty.

Foster then rang up an unassisted goal to put the Bishops ahead, 12-11, with 1:59 to play.

Gioseffi won the next face-off, with freshman defenseman Trent Schulte (Coronado, Calif.) gathering the ground ball, and the Bishops were able to work more than a minute off the clock.  After a 30-second warning, Edwin Foster's shot was partially blocked by a Briton defender, and Albion goalkeeper Kyle Formanczyk got the loose ball.

Formanczyk threaded an outlet pass up the middle to Hubbell with about 10 seconds to play, but Carlson knocked the ball loose before Hubbell could wind up for a shot.  Kyle Foster came up with the loose ball and flung it downfield to seal the victory.

Albion raced to a 3-0 lead in the game, getting a goal from Alexander Dziewit less than 2 minutes into the game, then added scores by Cameron Braun and Tim Urso, the latter with 8:28 left in the first period.

Schulte then turned the tide for the Bishops, not only winning the ensuing face-off, but picking up the ground ball, racing to the goal, and beating Formanzcyk with a shot to put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard just :08 after Albion had scored.

Gioseffi won the next face-off as well, with freshman midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon) grabbing the ground ball after a lengthy scrum, heading to the goal, and scoring to bring the Bishops within 3-2 just 21 seconds after Schulte's goal.

The Bishop face-off goals kicked off a 7-0 run that included a game-tying score by junior attacker Marcus Dietz (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) before Ohio Wesleyan opened the second quarter with goals by senior midfielder Brendan Bouchard (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Derek Todd (Edina, Minn.), senior attacker John Umbach (Montclair, N.J.), and Edwin Foster for a 7-3 lead with 6:17 left in the first half.

Albion opened the second half with a pair of goals by Hubbell less than a minute apart to close to within 7-6.

Edwin Foster and Kyle Foster answered with goals to give the Bishops a 9-6 lead, but Albion answered with scores by Dziewit and Brandon Lebioda to make it 9-8.  Edwin Foster wrapped up the third quarter with a man-up goal, and Dietz scored early in the fourth quarter to restore the Bishops' 3-goal lead, but Albion responded with a 3-0 run to even the game, getting goals from Joel Hedemark and Hubbell before Hubbell's equalizer at the 3:44 mark.

Edwin Foster led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Kyle Foster finished with 2 goals and 2 assists and Dietz added 2 goals and an assist.  Senior Ryan McMahon (Springfield, Va./The Bullis School) recorded 12 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.

Hubell finished with 4 goals for Albion.  Formancyzk stopped 18 shots for the Britons.
