Ohio Wesleyan 15, Centre 6

Senior attacker Marcus Dietz (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) and freshman attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) had 2 goals apiece during a 6-0 second-quarter run that broke the game open, and ninth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan went on to a non-conference win over Centre on Wednesday at Selby Stadium.

Junior attacker Matt Maier (Summit, N.J.) gave the Bishops the lead less than 90 seconds into the game, and junior midfielder Dallas Reed (Huntersville, N.C./Hough) followed with a goal just over a minute later for an early 2-0 Bishop edge.

Dietz finished off the first-quarter scoring with a goal with just 8 seconds to play in the period.

The Colonels pulled within 3-1 when Dustin Cowell found Dominic Peluso for a goal at the 10:58 mark of the second quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan reeled off the next 6 goals to close out the half.

Sophomore midfielder Derek Bacchiochi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and sophomore midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon) notched unassisted goals.  Dietz scored just 38 seconds later, and Tennant followed with a goal only 13 seconds after that.  Dietz and Tennant each tallied another goal during the quarter, which ended with Ohio Wesleyan holding a 9-1 lead.

Maier scored back-to-back goals during the third quarter, and freshman midfielder Jack Harvey (New Providence, N.J.) followed with a goal that extended the Bishop lead to 13-2.

Centre rallied with 3 straight scores, getting goals from Joe Lencewicz, Lorenzo Powell, and Matt Hughes, but that was as close as the Colonels would come.

Dietz led the Bishops with 3 goals and 5 assists, while Maier and Tennant scored 3 goals apiece.  Junior Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) made 6 saves during the first 40-plus minutes in the Ohio Wesleyan crease, and freshman Jameson Hill (Wilton, Conn.) played the final 19-plus minutes, recording 2 saves.

Hughes scored 2 goals for Centre.  Samuel Long was credited with 12 saves in the Colonel crease.
