Box Score Ohio Wesleyan 17, Wittenberg 8Senior midfielder Cooper Del Zotto (Orangeville, Ontario/Taft School), junior attacker Matt Maier (Summit, N.J.), and freshman midfielder Jack Harvey (New Providence, N.J.) each scored twice during the first quarter to help 10th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan take a 9-3 lead, and the Bishops went on to record a North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Wittenberg on Tuesday at Selby Stadium, increasing their NCAC record to 4-0.
Senior attacker Marcus Dietz (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) gave the Bishops the lead just under 2 minutes into the game, and just over a minute after that, it was Del Zotto with his first of the day, thanks to a pass from sophomore midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon). Less than 90 seconds later, junior midfielder Derek Todd (Edina, Minn.) made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal.
Wittenberg got on the scoreboard with a goal by T.J. Smith at the 9:53 mark of the quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan responded less than a minute later with Harvey's first goal of the day, this coming off a pass from sophomore midfielder Derek Bacchiochi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township).
Sean Kelleher brought the Tigers within 4-2 midway through the quarter, but the Bishops countered with goals by Maier and Del Zotto just 23 seconds apart, with Maier following with a goal for a 7-2 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
Harvey and freshman attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) added goals during the final 2 minutes of the quarter to extend the margin to 9-3.
Dietz, Tennant, and Del Zotto rang up goals early in the second quarter to make it a 12-3 game, and scores by Dietz and Leyden offset a pair of Thomas Fuss goals for Wittenberg as the Bishops took a 14-5 lead at the half.
Maier had a hand in both Bishop goals during the third quarter, scoring the first and setting up senior midfielder Sean Roskamp (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) on the second, and freshman midfielder Cole Jamieson (Okemos, Mich.) wrapped up the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a goal during the opening minute of the fourth quarter.
Dietz led the Bishops with 3 goals and 4 assists, while Maier compiled 3 goals and 3 assists and Del Zotto scored 3 goals. Junior Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal, finishing with 10 saves.
Fuss scored 4 goals for Wittenberg. Nick Gregory and Aaron Blossey combined for 10 saves for the Tigers.
