Hamed Highlights Harriers at NCAA Regional

15th of 36 at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship

Sophomore Ahmed Hamed (Hilliard/Bradley) led Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Liberty Park in Powell.

Calvin placed 6 runners in the top 20 to win the meet with 61 points, and DePauw had 5 runners in the top 40 to finish second with 111 points.  The top 2 teams automatically advance to next week's NCAA Division III championship meet.  Ohio Northern was third with 123 points, followed by Mount Union (148), Albion (160). John Carroll (207), Case Reserve (235), Trine (239), and Allegheny (250).  Otterbein completed the top 10 teams with a score of 334 points, followed by Wabash (338), Rose-Hulman (353), Baldwin Wallace (432), Hanover (460), Ohio Wesleyan (474), Hope (486), Wooster (489), Heidelberg (503), Earlham (518), and Denison completing the top 20 teams with 582 points.

Ohio Northern's Ian McVey won individual honors, completing the 8000-meter course in 25:11.0 to defeat Wabash's Dominic Patacsil by less than a second.

Hamed led Ohio Wesleyan with a 50th-place finish in 26:45.8.

ophomore Ryan Lesmez (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) finished 73rd in 27:04.2, senior Nick Horton (Westerville/North) placed 86th in 27:14.5, sophomore Josh Queener (Cardington/Cardington-Lincoln) was 127th in 27:55.9, and junior Daniel Frame (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) rounded out the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 138th-place finish in 28:11.7.

Sophomore Ben Loeper (Medina) was 160th in 28:33.0 and sophomore Darcy Isaiah (Akron/Firestone) placed 188th in 29:28.7.
