at NCAC Multi-Event
Senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) and sophomore Nate Minic (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) were leading the field after the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference multi-event championship, hosted by Denison University on Saturday in Granville.
With 4 of the 7 events completed, Newman was atop the standings with 2710 points and Minic was in second place with 2386 points. Sophomore Jayson Blankenship (Medina) was in sixth place with 2275 points.
Newman was sixth overall in the 60-meter dash (:07.37) before turning in the second-best long jump (20-1½) and then building his lead with the meet's best efforts in the shot put (40-5) and high jump (6-2¾).
Minic opened the meet with the best clocking in the 60-meter dash (:07.31) and the best leap in the long jump (20-6½). His throw of 33-9¼ in the shot put was fourth overall, and his high jump of 5-3 tied for ninth.
Blankenship tied for second overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of :07.33. His long jump of 18-5¾ tied for eighth overall, his throw of 32-9¾ in the shot put was fifth-best int he meet, and his high jump of 5-5¼ was seventh on the day.
The NCAC multi-event competition resumes on Sunday with the final 3 events in the heptathlon along with the women's pentathlon.
