Susquehanna 13, Ohio Wesleyan 7

Senior outfielder Michael Blatchford (Shaker Heights) tied an Ohio Wesleyan school record, but Susquehanna used a 7-run third inning to take the lead and went on to post a non-conference win over the Bishops on Monday in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Blatchford doubled in the first inning, moving senior second baseman Matthew Messick (Dublin/Scioto) to third base, with sophomore first baseman Mitchell Raley (Hamilton/Badin) driving in Messick to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead, 1-0.

The River Hawks took the lead on back-to-back doubles by Cole Luzins and Tom Giaimo and a run-scoring single by Peter Yarem in the second, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the frame, capped by a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman catcher Zack Stiteler (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) that gave the Bishops a 4-2 lead.

Susquehanna batted around and scored 7 runs in the third, and the River Hawks added a run in the fourth and 3 more in the sixth.

Meanwhile, Blatchford led off the fifth inning with a double but was stranded at second base, and in the seventh, Messick again drew a walk, went to third on a double by Blatchford, and was driven in by Raley, this time on a sacrifice fly.  Blatchford would later score on a single by freshman outfielder Cole Antle (Grove City).

The 3 doubles by Blatchford ties the school record last accomplished by Blatchford at Wittenberg on April 26, 2015.  Sophomore first baseman Canyon McWilliams (Shaker Heights) and freshman shortstop Trevor Taus (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) each went 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.

Junior righthander Jackson Brownstein (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Tyson Thrush pitched the first 6.0 innings to record the win for Susquehanna
