Freshman Cade Richeson (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) won an event to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Wabash College on Friday in Crawfordsville, Ind.
Ohio Wesleyan was leading the meet with 36 points to 31 for DePauw. Wabash was in third place with 28 points, followed by Denison (27), Allegheny (19), Wittenberg (18), Oberlin (15), Kenyon (12), and Wooster (9).
Richeson won the shot put with a throw of 53-5¾, defeating his nearest competitor by more than 5 feet.
Also scoring for the Bishops on Friday were the distance medley relay team of senior Nick Horton (Westerville/North), freshman Kyler Brock (Zanesville/New Concord John Glenn), sophomore Alex Barrett (Kingston, Wash.), and sophomore Ahmed Hamed (Hilliard/Bradley), which finished fourth; senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace), who finished seventh in the triple jump; and Barrett, who placed eighth in the triple jump.
In preliminary action, Newman turned in the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an :08.49, with junior Quinton Broomfield (Gahanna/Lincoln) also qualifying for the finals of the event.
Junior Delontaye Morrow (Medina) won his heat in the 60-meter dash, with his time of :07.06 the second-fastest on the day. Freshman Marquis Sena (Bronx, N.Y./Institute for Math & Science) and senior Griffin Peyton (Cincinnati/Anderson) finished sixth and seventh overall and also will advance to the finals.
Freshman Kudzovi Nuakey (Canal Winchester/Groveport Madison) and sophomore Darcy Isaiah (Akron/Firestone) were 5-6 in respective times of 1:59.98 and 2:01.00 in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run and will advance to Saturday's final.
Junior Tommy Davis (Clyde) clocked a :22.98 in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash and will run in Saturday's final.
The NCAC championship meet is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
