Case Reserve 11, Ohio Wesleyan 1
Case Reserve 5, Ohio Wesleyan 3

Senior outfielder Michael Blatchford (Shaker Heights) hit a solo home run to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 5-3, but 18th-ranked Case Reserve held on to record a win in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader and complete a twinbill sweep of the Bishops on Sunday at Littick Field.

In the opener, CWRU's Tyler Wypiszenski hit 2 home runs and Ben Murphy threw 8.0 innings of shutout baseball as the Spartans took the win.

Wypiszenski smashed a 2-run homer to put the Spartans on the scoreboard in the second inning of the opener, and the visitors would add 3 more runs in the inning, highlighted by Rocco Maue's 2-run single.

CWRU would add single runs in each of the next 5 innings, with Wypiszenski hitting a leadoff homer in the seventh to increase the lead to 10-0.

Ohio Wesleyan scored in the bottom of the ninth when senior third baseman Colin Stolly (Lima/Central Catholic) led off with a single and sophomore first baseman Mitchell Raley (Hamilton/Badin) was hit by a pitch with one out.  Freshman outfielder Nick Sala (Oviedo, Fla.) then grounded to third base, but Spartan second baseman Danny Souza, trying to turn a game-ending double play, threw wildly to first, allowing Stolly to score.

Stolly had 2 hits for Ohio Wesleyan.  Sophomore righthander Seth Pritchett (Centerville) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Murphy scattered 7 hits in blanking the Bishops through the first 8.0 innings.

Case Reserve manufactured a run in the top of the first inning of the nightcap as Maue beat out an infield single, moved to second and third on wild pitches, and scored on an infield out by Nate Glasser.

Ohio Wesleyan answered in the bottom of the inning when sophomore outfielder Jon Erhard (Newark/Newark Catholic) singled with one out and Blatchford followed with a single down the rightfield line, with Erhard coming in to score when Spartan rightfielder Noah Mehrle misplayed the ball.

Wypiszenski doubled in a run and Mehrle lined a 2-run single during CWRU's 4-run fourth frame.

The Bishops closed to within 5-2 on an RBI double by
sophomore first baseman Canyon McWilliams (Shaker Heights) in the fifth and Blatchford led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to make it 5-3.  McWilliams followed with a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but Case Reserve's Liam Killingstad got out of the inning without any further damage.

Blatchford and McWilliams each went 2-for-3 for the Bishops.  McWilliams was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Matt Levine pitched the first 5.0 innings to record the win for CWRU and Killingstad picked up a save by retiring the final 5 batters
