Junior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored twice as 12th/13th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan rang up 3 goals in less than a minute to take the lead for good and went on to record a non-conference win over John Carroll on Wednesday at Selby Stadium.
The Bishops took the lead on a Tennant goal just over 2 minutes into the game, but the Blue Streaks evened the game with a Kevin Hack goal with 1:25 left in the first quarter.
Junior attacker Jack Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored off a pass from junior attacker Steven Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) with 12:42 left in the second quarter. Senior midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon) picked up the ensuing face-off, and Hildebrand found Tennant for a goal with 12:30 to play in the period. After a Blue Streak turnover, Leyden connected with Tennant for a goal that made it 4-1 with 12:03 remaining.
John Carroll closed to within 4-2 on a man-up goal by Colin Corcoran midway through the quarter, but the Bishops scored the next 3 goals, 2 by Hildebrand, to take a 7-2 lead into the locker room and continued the run by scoring the first 4 goals of the third quarter, with Tennant ringing up 3 of those, to extend the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 11-2.
Hildebrand added a goal and an assist during the fourth quarter and finished the evening with 3 goals and 4 assists. Tennant led the Bishops with 7 goals. Senior Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan crease and recorded 10 saves.
Corcoran had 2 goals for John Carroll. Will Good stopped 15 shots in the Blue Streak goal.
