Sophomore outfielder Jon Erhard (Newark/Newark Catholic), freshman catcher Zack Stiteler (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), and freshman outfielder Cole Antle (Grove City) belted home runs and junior righthander Jackson Brownstein (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) combined with 3 relievers on a 6-hit shutout as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Defiance in non-conference play on Wednesday at Littick Field.

Erhard staked the Bishops to a 1-0 lead with a solo shot with one out in the bottom of the first inning, and Stiteler made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the second.

Ohio Wesleyan erupted for 6 runs in the fifth, with Stiteler leading off the frame with a home run and Antle adding a 3-run shot later in the inning.

Meanwhile, Brownstein was in command, allowing only 4 hits during the first 6.1 innings and striking out 6 Yellow Jackets while walking 2 before leaving with 2 on and one out in the top of the seventh.  Freshman righthander Matt Poole (Powell/Olentangy Orange) came on in relief and induced a flare from Defiance's Lucas Thoneier, which Poole backpedaled and caught before firing to first to double up Jon Brown and get out of the inning.  Sophomore righthander Cody Brown (Lebanon) pitched a scoreless eighth and freshman righthander Alex Illitch (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) worked a scoreless ninth to complete the shutout.

The Bishops broke the game open with 6 runs in the sixth, with Stitelter's 2-run single capping the uprising, and added 7 runs in the seventh.

Erhard was 4-for-5 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI, Stiteler went 4-for-6 with 5 RBI, and Antle was 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.

Michael Reese was the starting and losing pitcher for Defiance.
