Box Score
Ohio Wesleyan 10, Ohio Northern 9

Sophomore first baseman Canyon McWilliams (Shaker Heights) doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to lift Ohio Wesleyan to a non-conference win over Ohio Northern on Thursday at Littick Field.

With the score tied at 9, sophomore shortstop Carter Franklin (Wooster/Canton Central Catholic) led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Two outs later, McWilliams lined a double to left to bring in Franklin with the go-ahead run.

Junior righthander Tom Ryan (Columbus/St. Charles), who had come on in relief in the top of the seventh, retired the Polar Bears in order in the eighth and faced the minimum in the ninth to nail down the victory.

The Bishops had taken a 1-0 lead in the first on a bases-loaded walk to senior second baseman Matthew Messick (Dublin/Scioto), but the Polar Bears came back with RBI singles by Dan Barna in the second and Hayden Shenefield in the third.

Ohio Wesleyan retook the lead with 4 runs in the fifth, highlighted by a bases-loaded triple by freshman outfielder Cole Antle (Grove City), but Ohio Northern answered with 6 runs in the top of the sixth, stringing together 5 hits and taking advantage of a pair of errors.

Sophomore first baseman Mitchell Raley (Hamilton/Badin) smashed a bases-clearing double to cap a 4-run Ohio Wesleyan sixth inning that gave the hosts a 9-8 lead.

The Polar Bears responded in the top of the seventh, opening the inning with a single by Phil Buckingham and doubles by Tyler Randick and Barna to even the score at 9.  With runners at second and third and none out, Brandon Kasberg laid down a squeeze bunt that Ryan fielded, looked Randick back to third, and fired to first to retire Kasberg.  Randick broke to the plate on Ryan's throw to first, but McWilliams fired home to get Randick and complete a double play.  Ryan then retired Luke Klinehoffer on a ground out to get out of the inning with the score tied.

Messick was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for Ohio Wesleyan.  Ryan finished the game with 3.0 innings of 1-hit relief to collect the win.

Jason Burkett, the last of 5 Polar Bear pitchers, was charged with the loss.
