1st of 8 at Sparky Adams Invitational
Freshman Marquis Sena (Bronx, N.Y./Institute for Math & Science) won an event and helped a relay team to a first-place finish to help Ohio Wesleyan win the team title at the Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace on Saturday in Berea.
Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 143 points to 115 for Ashland. Buffalo State finished third with 88 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace (81), John Carroll (79), Case Reserve (63), Lake Erie (30), and Washington & Jefferson (19).
Sena won the 100-meter dash in :10.98. He also anchored the Bishop 400-meter relay team, combining with junior Delontaye Morrow (Medina), junior Tommy Davis (Clyde), senior Griffin Peyton (Cincinnati/Anderson) to break the tape in :43.04.
Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were freshman Cade Richeson (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), who won the shot put with a throw of 54-8¾ and placed third in the discus; senior Nick Horton (Westerville/North), who won the 1500-meter run in 4:07.12; and sophomore Ahmed Hamed (Hilliard/Bradley), who won the 5000-meter run in 15:29.38.
Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Quinton Broomfield (Gahanna/Lincoln), who finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles; junior Daniel Frame (Tipp City/Tippecanoe), who was second in the 5000-meter run; Peyton, who was third in the javelin, fourth in the 100-meter dash, and seventh in the long jump; sophomore Zach Thayer (Hilliard/Darby), who placed third in the hammer and fifth in the discus; freshman Jabriri Davis (Sunlake, Fla.), who finished third in the long jump; freshman Darien Ramirez-Wilson (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), who was third in the triple jump; sophomore Nate Minic (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch), who finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the long jump; sophomore Jayson Blankenship (Medina), who placed fifth in the high jump; senior Justin Reznik (Columbia Station/Columbia), who placed fifth in the hammer; Morrow, who was sixth in the 100-meter dash and the high jump; and junior Darcy Isaiah (Akron/Firestone), who placed sixth in the 400-meter dash.
The Bishop 1600-meter relay team of freshman Kyler Brock (Zanesville/New Concord John Glenn), Isaiah, Horton, and sophomore Josh Queener (Cardington/Cardington-Lincoln) finished fourth.
