Junior attacker Steven Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) scored to give 7th/9th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan an early lead, but 9th/11th-ranked Denison took the lead with a 4-0 run and went on to a win in the championship game of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
Hildebrand's goal gave the Bishops a 1-0 lead at the 12:17 mark of the first quarter.
Denison took the lead with back-to-back goals from Spencer Butller, then closed out the first quarter with goals by Brooks Davy and Hannibal George.
Junior midfielder Cole Jamieson (Okemos, Mich.) opened the second-quarter scoring with a goal, and found sophomore midfielder Lucas Smith (

Woodgrove) for a goal that brought the Bishops within 7-4 with :28 left in the half, but Denison got a goal from Peter Pittroff with :10 remaining to take an 8-4 lead at the break.
Owen Armstrong and Pittroff opened the third quarter with goals to extend the margin to 10-4, and later in the quarter, Jake Waxter tallied a man-up goal and Henry DeCamp won the ensuing face-off and scored to give the visitors a 12-5 lead.
Senior midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon) and senior defender Aaron Carroll (

Gilman School) added fourth-quarter goals for Ohio Wesleyan.
Hildebrand led the Bishops with 2 goals. Senior Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) finished 10 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.
Butler had 4 goals for Denison. Reeves McKenney recorded 9 saves for the Big Red.
Carroll, Leyden, senior defenseman Justin Smith (Coronado, Calif.), and junior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team. They were joined by Denison's Owen Armstrong, Liam Burman, Butler, and George; Danny Bleifuss and Ben Sherman of DePauw; and Patrick Coughlin and Pierce Kraft of Kenyon. McKenney was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
