Sophomore outfielder Jon Erhard (Newark/Newark Catholic) and senior third baseman Colin Stolly (Lima/Central Catholic) drove in runs that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 2-0 lead, but sixth-ranked Wooster rallied for a win in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Littick Field.

In the nightcap, the Fighting Scots struck for 4 runs in the top of the first and scored in each of the first 5 innings on the way to completing the sweep.

Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the second inning of the opener when freshman catcher Matt Deskins (Mason) was hit by a pitch, moved to second on an infield out, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on Erhard's single.  The Bishops had chances to increase their lead, but stranded 2 runners in the second, third, and fourth innings.

The Bishops added a run in the fifth when senior outfielder Michael Blatchford (Shaker Heights) led off with a walk and sophomore first baseman Canyon McWilliams (Shaker Heights) followed with a single.  The runners moved up on a wild pitch on a third strike to Deskins, and Stolly followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Blatchford.

Meanwhile, sophomore righthander Chris Punka (Tallmadge/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) was sharp, blanking the visitors on 2 hits through the first 5.0 innings.  The tide turned in the sixth, however.  With 2 out, sophomore shortstop Carter Franklin (Wooster/Canton Central Catholic) threw wildly to first base on a grounder by Michael Wielansky, extending the inning, and Wooster's Dan Harwood followed with a home run to center to tie the game at 2.

Drew Tornow led off the top of the seventh with a home run to center to put the visitors ahead, and Jake Fling would add a 2-run triple later in the inning as Wooster extended its lead to 6-2.

McWilliams went 3-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Punka, who scattered 6 hits and struck out 4 during his 6.0 innings of work, was charged with the loss.

Nanak Sarah pitched the first 7.0 innings to collect the victory.

Wooster opened the nightcap with walks to Fling and Jake Stuursma, and after a sacrifice by Wielansky, a walk to Harwood filled the sacks.  Garrett Crum followed with a 2-run single, and Nick Strausbaugh delivered a 2-run double later in the inning.

Crum added a 3-run homer during Wooster's 6-run second and singled home a pair of runs during the Scots' 4-run third inning.  The visitors broke the game open with 10 runs in the fourth, with the uprising capped by Wielanski's 3-run homer.

Ohio Wesleyan averted the shutout in the bottom of the ninth as freshman outfielder Xavier Sarver (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) singled, moved to second on a passed ball, took third on a single by Franklin, and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore outfielder Dakota Bollinger (DeGraff/Riverside).

Freshman catcher Zack Stiteler (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) was 3-for-3 and Franklin went 3-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Junior righthander Jackson Brownstein (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Chandler Dippman worked the first 5.0 innings to record the win for Wooster.
