Junior midfielder Cole Jamieson (Okemos, Mich.) set up the tying goal and scored the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter, and the Bishop defense protected the lead through a pair of possessions during the final 6 minutes as 11th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan defeated 9th/10th-ranked Denison in a third-round matchup of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday in Granville.

Ohio Wesleyan advances to face Gettysburg, a 22-9 winner over Rhodes on Saturday, in an NCAA Division III quarterfinal game on Wednesday.  The time and site of Wednesday's quarterfinal game will be announced on Monday.

The Bishops trailed, 9-8, heading into the fourth quarter but evened the score at 9 on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Lucas Smith (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) just over a minute into the period.

Denison answered with an Owen Armstrong goal with 11:45 left in regulation time.

Less than a minute later, Jamieson found senior midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon) for a goal that tied the game at 10.  Jamieson then scored unassisted with 7:25 to play to give the Bishops the lead for good.

Ohio Wesleyan won the ensuing face-off, but Denison's Ben Duhoski knocked the ball loose from junior attacker Jack Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), and the Big Red looked for the tying score.  Senior Ben Rigger (Decatur, Ga.) stopped a shot by Denison's Peter Pittroff, and a pair of shots by Spencer Butler went wide before the Bishops called time out with 3:43 to play.

The strategy paid off when Denison's Brooks Davy turned the ball over at the 3:25 mark, with junior defenseman Jake Worrell (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) picking up the loose ball.  Leyden fired a shot with 1:28 to play, with Big Red keeper Reeves McKenney making the save and Hannibal George gathering in the loose ball to give the hosts a final chance.  After a Denison time out with 1:13 to play, the Big Red had shots by Jake Waxter and Owen Armstrong go wide before a Rigger snared a final shot from Wilson to the right of the cage in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Denison scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart to take a 2-0 lead, with Armstrong and Spencer Butler tallying for the hosts.

Junior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored just 27 seconds later to put the Bishops on the scoreboard, and junior attacker Steven Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) tied the game at 2 with 3:58 left in the period.

Just 27 seconds after that, the Big Red retook the lead with a goal by Waxter, and Denison would open the second quarter with scores by Butler and Davy for a 5-2 advantage.

Ohio Wesleyan reeled off the next 3 scores to pull even, with Jamieson and Leyden scoring 10 seconds apart to make it 5-4 and Hildebrand tying the game midway through the quarter before Waxter and Smith traded goals late in the half to leave the teams tied, 6-6, at the intermission.

Tennant scored back-to-back goals to open the third-quarter scoring, and the Bishops had a golden chance to increase the lead further, winning the ensuing faceoff and getting the ball to Hildebrand right in front of the crease, only to see McKenney make a save from in close.  The Big Red cleared the ball and got a goal from David just over a minute after Ohio Wesleyan had scored, and goals by Butler and Wills Hutras put Denison ahead, 9-8, after 3 quarters.

Tennant led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Hildebrand and Jamieson each had 2 goals and an assist.  Rigger finished with 10 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.

Butler had 3 goals for Denison.  McKenney recorded 11 saves for the Big Red.
