at NCAA Division III championship
Sophomore Cirrus Robinson (Ashland) won the national championship in the high jump while representing Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the NCAA Division III championship meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Friday in LaCrosse, Wis.
Robinson cleared her first 5 jumps to get to 5-6 unscathed, then cleared 5-7¼ on her final attempt to remain alive as the field narrowed to 5 competitors. After a weather delay, Robinson cleared 5-8½ on her last chance, while the remaining 4 competitors each missed all 3 attempts at that height.
Robinson was one of 3 competitors tied for the fourth seed with a jump of 5-7. She won All-America honors with a third-place finish in the high jump at the 2017 NCAA Division III outdoor championship meet, and has won back-to-back national championships in the indoor high jump. Robinson's 3 national championships is the most by an Ohio Wesleyan woman and ranks behind only Keith Rucker's 4 national titles.
The first-place finish gave Ohio Wesleyan 10 points in the team standings, good for a tie for 24th place among the 152 schools that were represented in the meet.
