Richeson, Newman Win for Men's Track & Field

Freshman Cade Richeson (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) and senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) won events to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Allegheny College on Friday in Meadville, Pa.

Ohio Wesleyan was leading the meet with 61 points to 43 for Oberlin.  DePauw was in third place with 41 points, followed by Wabash (35½), Allegheny (29), Kenyon, Denison, and Wittenberg (19), and Wooster (6½).

Richeson won the shot put with a throw of 49-10.

Newman won the pole vault, clearing 14-9, and added a fifth-place finish in the long jump.

Also winning All-NCAC citations were sophomore Jayson Blankenship (Medina), who placed second in the pole vault; sophomore Zach Thayer (Hilliard/Darby), who was second in the hammer; and freshman Jabriri Davis (Sunlake, Fla.), who finished third in the long jump.

Other standouts for the Bishops included senior Justin Reznik (Columbia Station/Columbia), who finished seventh in the hammer; and senior Nick Horton (Westerville/North), who placed eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

In Friday's preliminaries, junior Quinton Broomfield (Gahanna/Lincoln) clocked the meet's best time in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in :54.77, and senior Griffin Peyton (Cincinnati/Anderson) won his heat in the 100-meter dash in :10.92.

The NCAC championship meet is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
