Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Cayla Homsher (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) and head coach Brenda Semit received special awards as part of the All-North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey teams, it was announced today.
Homsher, a defender, was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year and was a first-team All-NCAC selection.
Semit was named NCAC Coach of the Year.
Sophomore midfielder Astrid Koek (Hulsberg, the Netherlands/Erasmus) also was a first-team All-NCAC selection, freshman forward Madisyn Bunke (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) was a second-team All-NCAC pick, and freshman midfielder Veronica Hardman (Sydney, Australia/Ravenswood) and freshman defender Floor Jansen (Zeist, the Netherlands/Utrecht Stedelyk Gymnasium) were honorable mention choices.
Homsher, Koek, and Jansen were starters in an Ohio Wesleyan defense that shares the league lead with only 9 goals allowed this season and compiled a 0.53 goals-against average. Koek was a second-team all-conference selection in 2018.
Bunke is tied for fourth in the league with 9 goals, tied for sixth with 19 points, and tied for seventh with 3 game-winning goals. Her averages of 0.53 goals and 1.12 points per game rank fourth and sixth respectively.
Hardman ranked third on the team in scoring with 4 goals and 5 assists for 13 points. She is tied for seventh in the league in assists and tied for 10th in game-winning goals (2).
Semit was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the first time.
Ohio Wesleyan finished the season with a 13-4 record. The Bishops shared the NCAC championship with a 7-1 mark, Ohio Wesleyan's first conference title since 1995, and advanced to the NCAC tournament for the first time since 2012.
