Sophomore attacker Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Jenn Douglas (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) each scored twice during a game-opening 6-1 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a non-conference win over Heidelberg on Tuesday in Tiffin.
Freshman midfielder Olivia Beauchamp (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury Union) staked the Bishops to an early lead, but the Student Princes responded with a goal by Angela Lulejian less than a minute later.
Douglass scored to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and goals by McElgunn, Douglas, junior attacker Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis), and McElgunn stretched the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 6-1 midway through the first half.
Heidelberg ended that Bishop run with a score by Jen Kovarik, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with a 5-1 burst that included 3 consecutive scores by Douglas on the way to an 11-3 lead in the closing minutes of the first half.
The Student Princes pulled within 11-6 on another Lulejian goal early in the second half, but sophomore defender Grace Burich (Buffalo, N.Y./Mount St. Mary) rang up a goal to end that Heidelberg comeback and Baumgartner took over from there, scoring Ohio Wesleyan's last 4 goals as the Bishops closed out the win.
Baumgartner and Douglas scored 6 goals apiece for Ohio Wesleyan. Senior goalkeeper Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan crease and was credited with 6 saves.
Lulejian led Heidelberg with 3 goals. Jessica Ballow and Mandi Phillips combined for 7 saves for the Student Princes.
