Junior attacker Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) scored the go-ahead goal and followed with an assist and sophomore attacker Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.) followed with 2 goals during a 4-0 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in a non-conference win over Puget Sound on Monday in Tacoma, Wash.
Baumgartner set up one goal and scored 2 others as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 3-0 run, but the Loggers answered with 3 goals by Jenna Kistner to even the game at 3 at the half.
Baumgartner converted a free-position shot to open the second-half scoring, and just 23 seconds later, fed sophomore attacker Emily Sheridan (North Smithfield, R.I./Marianapolis (Conn.) Prep) for a score that gave the Bishops a 5-3 lead. McElgunn then scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart to extend the margin to 7-3.
Kistner converted a free-position shot to end that Bishop run, but Sheridan and Baumgartner followed with goals for a 9-4 Ohio Wesleyan lead. Freshman midfielder Olivia Beauchamp (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury Union) and Baumgartner would tally goals during the closing minutes.
Baumgartner led the Bishops with 5 goals and 2 assists, while McElgunn finished with 2 goals and 3 assists. Senior Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) stopped 7 shots in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.
Kistner led Puget Sound with 5 goals. Ally Benko recorded 11 saves for the Loggers.
