Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Bryce Wittman (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) received Scholar All-American recognition from the National Wrestling Coaches Association, it was announced by the NWCA.
Wittman advanced to the NCAA Division III Central Regional, where he finished fifth in the 157-pound bracket. He compiled a record of 28-14 this season, including a 20-11 mark at 157 pounds, and recorded 2 second-place finishes and 2 third-place finishes. Wittman is Ohio Wesleyan's first NWCA Division III All-Academic honoree.
To be considered for NWCA Division III All-Academic recognition, a nominee must have a 3.2 grade-point average (on a scale of 4.0) for the previous full academic year, or a cumulative 3.2 GPA; must have been in residence at his current institution starting in the fall of 2018; and must meet one of the following 3 criteria: 1) must be a national qualifier this season and have a minimum .500 won/loss percentage, 2) must have placed in the top 8 at the NCAA regional tournament and have a minimum .500 won/loss record and must have competed in at least 50 percent (half) of his institution's total scheduled competition of NCAA-sanctioned events, 3) must have a minimum 2/3 winning percentage or standard rounding to the nearest hundredth (i.e. .665 or higher), and must have competed in at least 50 percent (half) of his institution's total scheduled competition of NCAA-sanctioned events. Also, the nominee must be of high moral character and in good standing at the institution making the nomination.
A total of 261 student-athletes representing 83 institutions were recognized as All-Academic selections.
