Junior attacker Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense, but Kenyon opened the game with an 8-0 run and went on to a win over the Bishops in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday in Gambier.
Cassie Hudson-Heck scored twice for Kenyon in the opening minute of play and Avery Morgan tallied 3 times as the Ladies built an 8-0 lead at the 6:22 mark of the contest.
Baumgartner put the Bishops on the scoreboard courtesy of a feed from sophomore attacker Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.) with 15:25 left in the first half, but Lucy Somers scored just 8 seconds later for Kenyon, and the Ladies added scores from Somers and Morgan for an 11-1 lead.
Baumgartner led the Bishops with 2 goals. Senior Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) was credited with 14 saves.
Hudson-Heck led Kenyon with 5 goals and an assist. Carina Barnes and Genevieve Harding combined for 3 saves for the Ladies.
