Freshman midfielder Olivia Beauchamp (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury Union) and freshman midfielder Taryn Graves-Rogers (Hilliard/Darby) scored goals 16 seconds apart as Ohio Wesleyan broke a 5-5 tie and went on to take a non-conference win over Franciscan on Thursday in Steubenville.
The Barons had evened the game at 5 on a goal by Elizabeth McEntee early in the second half.
Beauchamp scored off a feed from sophomore attacker Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.) with 21:21 remaining in regulation time, and Graves-Rogers scored just 16 seconds later for a 7-5 Bishop lead.
Grace Deegan scored goals that brought Franciscan within 7-6 and 8-7, but Ohio Wesleyan sealed the outcome by scoring the last 5 goals of the game, with McElgunn starting the game-ending run and Beauchamp finishing it.
Sophomore midfielder Jenn Douglas (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) had scored goals 20 seconds apart during a 3-0 first-half run that wiped out a 1-0 deficit, but the Barons tied the game at 4 on a Deegan goal with 4:58 left in the first half. Douglas answered with a goal to give Ohio Wesleyan a 5-4 lead at the break.
Douglas led the Bishops with 5 goals and an assist. Senior Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) finished with 13 saves.
Deegan led Franciscan with 4 goals. Brittany Bain stopped 16 shots for the Barons.
